Welcome to Higher Pennant Farm
Guest House.
Discounted Autumn/Winter Breaks
Although not a farm in the true sense of the word, our
Guest House was built in the 1920's and combines a lovely feeling of rustic
timelessness in a friendly and relaxed environment, offering Bed and Breakfast
in comfortable accommodation. Guests are always welcome to call at any time of
the day and we will do our best to ensure that you enjoy your stay with us, and
our extended family.

Our Guest House is situated between the hamlet of
Lanlivery, the local landmark of Helman Tor on the edge of Redmoor, and Bodelva
( site of the Eden Project ) affording us some fantastic views
across to Bodmin
moor and on up to north Cornwall. Lanlivery is midway between Fowey and Bodmin
and can boast a 12th century church and an 11th century pub/restaurant (The
Crown Inn), where no doubt the finer points of the days outing can be
convivially discussed.
Churchtown Farm disabled centre is about 800 yards from the
house and offers facilities for most activities involving disabled people and
can accommodate some families. We can accommodate a disabled family should
Churchtown be fully booked for your chosen period, as we now have full disabled
access with ground floor accommodation with a ground floor shower/wet room.
There are many varied walks and places of interest to
visit, the most notable being the "Saints Way" and "Lanhydrock
House", an elegant National Trust property, and nor forgetting the
"Lost gardens of Heligan", a truly spectacular sight during spring and
summer, especially for the gardeners among you.
The picturesque harbour town of Fowey is only 8 miles away,
offering breathtaking coastal walks and fishing trips, together with some of the
best restaurants in Cornwall. The Daphne du Maurier festival is held every May
in Fowey and attracts visitors from all over the world.
The Eden Project is situated in a disused china clay pit,
the size of 35 football pitches, about 4 miles from Lanlivery and will consist
of 2 giant conservatories (Biomes) which will house plants from Amazonia, West
Africa, Malaysia, Oceania, California, South Africa and the Mediterranean.
One
Biome is large enough to hold the Tower of London and opened officially in March
2001. If you are intending to visit the Eden Project, then "Advance
Tickets" can be
purchased from the local Tourist offices by phone ( with a credit card ) or we
can get them for you, with prior notice. Further information can obtained from www.eden-project.co.uk
Our accommodation has en-suite facilities and colour
television in both rooms, but with so much going on in Cornwall, we doubt that
you will have much time to watch it.
We'd like to believe that our Guest House is by far, more
relaxing than just a Bed and Breakfast, with no strict meal times or departure
times to make you feel rushed. We will cater for most tastes at the breakfast
table including vegetarian.
We have a small paddock/orchard that campers may use free
of charge, with the option of joining us at the house for breakfast, Bed and
Breakfast without the bed. There are also two mountain bikes that may be used,
for a small charge, if you fancy cycling the lanes of Cornwall.
Our Family
This consists of 9 horses, ranging from a wee Shetland to a
rather large Shire, all of whom will be your friend for life if you have an
apple or a carrot in your pocket. There is also our pet Ewe called Stella and
her 2 offspring, Beamish and Murphy, both as big as mum. All are very friendly
having been reared as pets and are not averse to a good fussing when the mood
takes them.
Our Geese are not as predictable, although being mainly
vegetarian they will still try to take a sly peck at an unsuspecting hand, leg
or backside, and believe me it hurts, but kept behind a fence can be quite a
sight parading up and down either showing off or protecting their young when
they hatch in early May. The rest of the livestock consists of 70 or so ducks
and chickens, these wander all over the grounds so don't worry if you are at the
picnic table and suddenly hear a few quacks from near your feet, in return they
will happily provide you with an egg or two for your breakfast, either chicken
or duck. We are not vegetarian but none of these animals are treated as
potential meals, how can you give your pets names, such as Magoo, Stroller,
Ethel etc, etc and then invite them to Sunday lunch. All of the Geese have names
too, but remembering which one is which can be quite a feat seeing most of them
are white. There is also our pair of Turkeys, Mattie and Bernie, saved from the
dining table last Christmas.
